Robert (Bob) Scott was instrumental in establishing the Drug Awareness and Recovery Team Society (DART) in 1997. He had a vision to improve his community by helping ex-addicts and parolees reintegrate into society as full participants. He possessed a tireless passion to support the needs of those in recovery, and offered services and assistance in pursuit of those goals.
Bob Scott recognized flaws and barriers that obstructed access to meaningful employment for thisgroup of people. He was often quoted saying “When all you can put on a job application is ‘ex-junkie’, who is going to hire you?” He took action and started his own business called “Scott’s Family Gardeners” to not only provide work for himself, but also provide a source of employment for ex-addicts and parolees in Prince George. This was the beginnings of a community that allowed him to mentor a large number of people. He was able to help them find self-worth and confidence through achievement.
In honor of Bob Scott, who passed away in 2008, DART continues to celebrate his life and the impact he has made in his community by recognizing others that share in his legacy. The Bob Scott award is presented annually to an individual, group, business, organization or agency that exemplifies integrity, leadership and inspiration in contributing to the betterment of the Prince George community
